Gary Neville believes that Ryan Giggs will make the most of his first international tournament when he leads Team GB out at the Olympics.

Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville has backed Ryan Giggs to make the most of the upcoming Olympic football tournament.

Giggs, 38, is the most decorated player in British football history at club level but has never played in an international tournament throughout his long and illustrious career.

However, the former Wales international will lead Team GB out at the Olympics as one of the three over-23 players named in Stuart Pearce's squad, and Neville is happy that Giggs will finally get his chance on the international stage.

"I've got a close friend in there in Ryan Giggs and it's an incredible moment and opportunity for him to be able to be part of this tournament. He obviously hasn't had the good fortune to have been part of tournaments with Wales, but at the age of 38 he will captain the Great Britain Olympics team," said Neville.

"We haven't had an Olympics football team for 52 years. Sir Matt Busby was the manager in 1948 of the GB Olympic team and Ryan Giggs is doing it now.

"I hope it's something that can continue beyond this tournament and I hope the lads do really well."

Giggs retired from international football with Wales in 2007 having made 64 appearances for his country, scoring 12 goals.
