David Moyes: 'Recruitment didn't work when I was at Manchester United'

David Moyes reveals that Manchester United's transfer strategy failed in the summer when he became manager.

David Moyes has revealed that Manchester United's transfer plans failed during the summer when the Scotsman was appointed manager.

The 51-year-old, who replaced Sir Alex Ferguson in 2013, only sealed the signature of Marouane Fellaini from his old club Everton for around £27m.

The Red Devils were heavily linked to numerous players, but Moyes added just one name to the squad in that window before his eventual departure eight months later.

Fellaini faced criticism for failing to make a significant impact in his first season at Old Trafford, but now, the Belgium international has become an integral part of the team under new manager Louis van Gaal.

In an interview with The Express, Moyes said: "We wanted to bring in other players and the recruitment didn't work the way we wanted it to and, ideally, we wouldn't have made Fellaini our one and only signing if we could have helped it.

"But I am not surprised at Fellaini because I thought he had made a big impact on England over the years."

Moyes is currently the manager of La Liga side Real Sociedad, who are 12th in the table.
