Manchester United's David Moyes could rest Wayne Rooney

David Moyes says that Wayne Rooney could miss Manchester United's upcoming games due to his groin injury.

Manchester United manager David Moyes has revealed that he could rest Wayne Rooney to allow him to fully recover from his groin injury.

The England international striker started the Red Devils' Premier League encounter against Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford on New Year's Day.

"The plan was to play Wayne for 90 minutes [against Tottenham], but he has a bit of a groin injury," Goal.com quotes Moyes as saying.

"The longer it went on, we had to try to get more attacking players on the pitch to try and find more ways to score.

"If I could [rest Rooney] I would, but the games are coming thick and fast. He has missed a game with his groin and he may well miss some more coming up."

United lost 2-1 to Spurs and are now 11 points behind leaders Arsenal in seventh in the league table.
