Michael Carrick: "I have a new lease of life"

England midfielder Michael Carrick insists that he is "enjoying" his football, having got a "new lease of life" following his recent good form for Manchester United.

Manchester United and England midfielder Michael Carrick has said that he has a "new lease of life" following his recent spell of good form.

The 33-year-old has played an important role in establishing his club side in the top four of the Premier League again this season, earning a recall to the national side as a result.

Carrick is the oldest member of Roy Hodgson's squad to face Lithuania and Italy, and he insisted that would make the most of his remaining time with the Three Lions.

"I am the older one and that is just something I am used to now. I have a new lease of life. I am just enjoying my football. You get to a certain age and you don't actually know how long you have left," he told reporters.

"I feel great at the moment and I've certainly got another year left in me and I am just happy to be part of it, and make the most of it because it's a special thing to be involved in and I am very grateful for that.

"I love seeing the younger lads come in but it's important to have experience."

Carrick received his first international call-up more than 14 years ago but has gone on to make just 31 appearances for his country.
