Man United captain Bruno Fernandes' sensational Champions League record for the Red Devils explained

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has scored or assisted every 99 minutes for the Red Devils in the Champions League, with only the club's former striker Ruud van Nistelrooy doing so at a more regular rate, boasting one goal involvement every 79 minutes.

The Portugal international has been in excellent form for Man United early in the 2026-27 campaign, scoring four goals and registering one assist in four appearances.

Fernandes has managed three goals and one assist in his opening three Premier League matches.

The 32-year-old was then on the scoresheet in Man United's 4-0 success over Sabah in the league phase of the Champions League on Thursday night.

Fernandes is now on seven goals and 10 assists in 20 appearances for the Red Devils in the Champions League, showing his quality at the highest level.

The Portuguese has been one of Man United's best-ever signings, coming up with 111 goals and 109 assists in 331 appearances for the club in all competitions since his arrival.

Fernandes will now be aiming to inspire the 20-time English champions to a victory in Sunday's Manchester derby against Manchester City in the Premier League.

Matheus Cunha, Benjamin Sesko and Lisandro Martinez were also on the scoresheet in Thursday's four-goal success over Sabah in the Champions League.

"It's a good night for us, for many reasons, I think individuals were really good and collectively, as a squad, with players coming onto the pitch, who didn't start the game, doing ever so well in keeping the consistency in performance as a team," Man United head coach Michael Carrick told reporters after the match.

"It's important for us and good to be able to change things as the game developed. The clean sheet is a big one for us. We are looking exciting and could have scored more. There are a lot of things to take and I'm happy with tonight's work.

"It's nice to have a clean sheet and obviously win the game. There was a lot - some of our attacking play was fantastic, some of the football we played was really good. We were dangerous on the transition and defended, for the most part, really well.

"They are a tough team to play against. The result looks comfortable but it wasn't always like that. We've done a lot of good things tonight, which gave us a good result.

"A mixture of goals - Licha getting his goal is fantastic. There was a mixture of styles and type of goals but we'll take them, however they come. It was great to get Shea [Lacey] and Harry [Amass] off the bench, for them to finish the game. That's important and nice to be able to do that."

Fernandes has faced Man City on 17 occasions in all competitions, boasting a record of six wins, two draws and nine defeats, while he has scored four goals and registered five assists in the process.
