Manchester City will reportedly request that Frenkie de Jong is included in any proposal which could see Raheem Sterling move to Barcelona.

Manchester City are reportedly taking an interest in a potential swap deal involving Raheem Sterling and Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong.

Speculation persists that Sterling, who has less than two years remaining on his contract, will look to leave the Etihad Stadium during one of the next two transfer windows.

The 26-year-old's only start over the past few weeks has come in the EFL Cup, arguably another sign that the England international has fallen down the pecking order under Pep Guardiola.

At a time when Barcelona are weighing up a future move for the player, El Nacional claims that City are interested in signing De Jong.

Aware that Barcelona may not be able to meet their valuation of Sterling, Guardiola has allegedly offered the idea of a straight-swap with the Netherlands international.

Despite making 13 starts in La Liga and the Champions League this season, De Jong has failed to meet expectations since leaving Ajax for Camp Nou in 2019.
