Malaga lose Europa League ban appeal

Malaga have lost their appeal to play in next season's Europa League following a decision by the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

The Spanish club was given the suspension by UEFA in December after being found guilty of breaching financial fair play rules.

"CAS has dismissed the appeal filed by Malaga against the decision taken on December 21, 2012 by the Adjudicatory Chamber of the UEFA Club Financial Control Body decision," read a statement from CAS.

"As a consequence, the Spanish club is excluded from the UEFA Europa League 2013-14 and will have to pay a fine of €300,000 (£255,000)."

Malaga's place in next season's Europa League has been awarded to Sevilla.
