Wolfsburg recorded a comprehensive 3-0 win over a beleaguered Mainz 05 side in this afternoon's Bundesliga clash at the Volkswagen Arena.

The visitors had a bright spell early on in the game as they laid siege to the home goal in the first few minutes, but Wolfsburg's defence proved defiant.

However, the hosts were soon able to turn things around and mount attacks of their own, which ultimately culminated in Naldo's header into the bottom left corner on the quarter-hour mark.

The game opened up thereafter, with both sides surging forward and trading efforts, but Wolfsburg maintained their slender lead by the end of the first half.

Just before the hour, Dieter Hecking's charges doubled their lead when Naldo's corner was headed home by Ivan Perisic.

Despite Mainz's best efforts, Wolfsburg were able to add a third with three minutes left in the game when Daniel Caligiuri stroked the ball into the bottom left corner.
