Boateng (33')

One goal enough for Schalke 04 to beat Mainz 05

A single goal from Kevin-Prince Boateng hands Schalke 04 the three points against Mainz 05.

Kevin-Prince Boateng scores in the first half to give Schalke 04 all three points against Mainz 05 in the Bundesliga.

Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting started the game in typical direct fashion and tried to score from just outside the box in the first minute, but saw his attempt blocked.

He was then found by Elkin Soto just after the 20-minute mark, but he missed the target when he should have done better.

The game needed something to spark it into life, which was provided by Kevin-Prince Boateng, who fired into the bottom corner from outside the box to put Schalke one up.

Zdenek Pospech came close to levelling matters just before the break, but his shot from an angle went just wide.

Julian Draxler could have doubled Schalke's lead but dragged a shot wide after being found by Atsuto Uchida.

However, there were no more goals and Schalke took all three points.
