Half-Time Report: Sheffield Wednesday lead against Macclesfield Town at the break

Sheffield Wednesday go into the break 1-0 up against Macclesfield Town thanks to a goal from Reda Johnson.

Sheffield Wednesday go into the break 1-0 up against Macclesfield Town thanks to a goal from Reda Johnson.

Macclesfield were the lowest-ranked team in terms of league position going into the match, and looked nervous as Sheffield Wednesday controlled the opening exchanges.

However, it was Macclesfield who came closest to scoring early on, when Joe Connor's header was cleared off the line.

This gave the hosts confidence and they grew into the game, but their good work was undone when they failed to defend a Stephen McPhail corner, allowing Johnson to head in the opener.

The goal gave the visitors the chance to reassert their dominance and Jose Semedo soon forced a save from Rhys Taylor having looked certain to score.

The away side then missed a great chance to double their lead when Adthe Nuhiu glanced wide from a corner.
