Rodgers tips Henderson for World Cup place

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has backed Jordan Henderson to earn a place in the England squad for next year's World Cup.

The midfielder was part of Roy Hodgson's set-up for the 2012 European Championships, but he has not featured for his country since.

However, having turned out regularly for the Reds this season in a variety of different positions, Rodgers believes that the 23-year-old's versatility could result in Hodgson considering his selection.

"I think there is a great opportunity there for Jordan," Rodgers told the Liverpool Echo.

"I look at Jordan and I think he's absolutely perfect for the World Cup squad. Firstly, in terms of the performance level he has shown so far this season. Also when you go to a World Cup you are taking a squad with you.

"You need players who are going to be flexible and can play well in a number of positions and I am sure Roy Hodgson knows that."

Henderson has made five appearances for England at senior international level.
