Liverpool are reportedly planning to match Sunderland’s £8m bid for Connor Wickham of Ipswich Town.
Anfield manager Kenny Dalglish and director of football Damien Comolli have had their eye on the England Under-21s player for a while and had previously put forward an offer of £6m plus a season’s loan of Jonjo Shelvey.
Following the Black Cats’ bid, the Reds are now willing to put in an improved offer, according to The Mirror.
It has been suggested that Ipswich are keen to get closer to £10m for the 18-year-old, who has also received some interest from Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur.
“We don’t want to sell Connor Wickham, but if he wants to leave and the right offer comes in then we’ll have to consider it,” Ipswich manager Paul Jewell told the newspaper.
