Liverpool in advanced talks over new Georginio Wijnaldum deal?

Georginio Wijnaldum will reportedly be offered the chance to sign a contract extension with Liverpool that runs through until 2023 with the option of a further year.

Liverpool are reportedly in advanced talks over extending midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum's contract.

The Netherlands international, a £25m signing from Newcastle United in 2016, is into the final 18 months of his existing deal.

Wijnaldum recently revealed that he wants to one day return to Dutch football, and teams from Italy and Spain are believed to have made their interest known.

However, Italian journalist Nico Schira has claimed that the Reds are eager to keep the 29-year-old in place for at least another three years.

Discussions between the two parties are said to be underway, with Wijnaldum being given the option of a further season to keep him at Anfield until 2024 should he wish.
