Liverpool face 'January fight' with two Euro giants for Guehi

Liverpool are reportedly set to battle with two European giants for Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi in the January window.

The Reds came close to signing the 25-year-old centre-back on transfer deadline day after a £35m bid had been agreed.

Guehi also completed a part of his medical, but the deal failed to materialise after Oliver Glasner threatened to walk away if the player was sold without signing a proper replacement.

It has left the former Chelsea defender frustrated, and reports have emerged that he will not sign any contract offers from the Eagles and would depart as a free agent next summer.

Palace, of course, could cash in on him in the January window, and Liverpool are expected to come up with another bid, albeit on a reduced price for the defender.

Liverpool could face competition for Guehi

Guehi will be able to sign a pre-contract with foreign clubs in January, which means several European clubs could join the race.

Bayern Munich have been reportedly linked, and according to a report from The Sun, La Liga giants Real Madrid and Barcelona are interested in signing the England international.

Liverpool tried their best to make the move happen, and they had filed a deal sheet before Monday's 7pm cut-off, while the defender had already filmed his farewell video.

Madrid are in the market for a new defender, and coincidentally, they have been linked to Reds defender Ibrahima Konate, who has entered the final year of his contract at Anfield.

The January window could be interesting for Guehi

Obviously, it is heartbreak for Guehi to find himself in this position after showing great professionalism throughout, even when Palace rejected big-money offers from Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur previously.

Staying at Selhurst Park for the 2025-26 season, in the World Cup year, could come as a blessing in disguise, as he is guaranteed a regular starting place at Palace, whereas the same cannot be said if he had moved to Anfield.

It would be difficult for any player to reject offers from the likes of Barcelona and Real Madrid, but Palace probably will accept offers from Liverpool if they come again in six months.
