Klopp: 'Can contract talks still open'

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has insisted that "nothing is decided" with regards to Emre Can's future as contract talks are still ongoing with the midfielder.

Can has let his existing deal run down at Anfield and will now become a free agent in a little over two months' time, reportedly opening the door for a switch to either Juventus or former club Bayern Munich.

The Germany international hit out at "false" stories surrounding his future earlier this week after being quoted as saying that he intends to "play for a big club" next season.

With speculation continuing to mount over the 24-year-old's next career move, Klopp has suggested that the in-demand midfielder could yet remain on Merseyside.

"What is the situation at the moment? Open. Nothing is decided," he told reporters at Friday's weekly press conference. "We are in talks with him and it is all good so far apart from he hasn't yet signed a contract for us. That is all, there is no problem with that."

Can is a fitness doubt for this weekend's Premier League meeting with Crystal Palace after pulling out of international duty with a bad back.
