Brendan Rodgers has promised Liverpool supporters that he will end the club's 25-year wait for a league title in the near future.
The Reds came agonisingly close to winning the Premier League last season but a series of disappointing results in the closing stages of the campaign saw Manchester City pip them to the championship.
Nevertheless, Rodgers says that second-place finish represented a step in the right direction, and claims that it is only a matter of time before he re-establishes the club as the dominant force in English football.
"If it doesn't happen this year, then it will happen soon," he told The Mirror. "There is no depression here, there hasn't been a hangover.
"I wasn't lying on a sun lounger on a beach over the summer crying and fretting over the fact that we lost the league.
"There is only an excitement and a belief inside the club that we can challenge again for the title this time."
Liverpool kick off their 2014-15 campaign by hosting Southampton next Sunday.
