Brendan Rodgers certain Liverpool still in "brilliant" Premier League title race

Brendan Rodgers says that Liverpool's sudden slip from first to fifth is just a sign of things to come in an "exciting" Premier League season.

Brendan Rodgers has expressed his elation at the wide open Premier League title race and insists that Liverpool are still firmly in the mix.

The Reds sat top of the table on Christmas Day, but now find themselves in fifth place just a matter of days later after losing 2-1 to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

"I think it's open," Rodgers told reporters. "Christmas Day eating our turkey we were top of the league. A few days and games later we're fifth.

"I think that's the way it will go between now and the end of the season. I think it's brilliant and it makes it really exciting."

Liverpool host Hull City at Anfield on New Year's Day.
