Southampton manager Claude Puel is happy with his side's "good point" from their goalless draw with Liverpool at St Mary's.

Southampton manager Claude Puel has said that he is pleased with his side's goalless draw against Liverpool at St Mary's this afternoon.

The hosts kept the Premier League's top scorers at bay despite surrendering the majority of possession, ensuring that they came away with a point to end a two-match losing run in the top flight.

Puel acknowledged that it was a "difficult" game for his side, but was pleased that they managed to secure a share of the spoils.

"I think it was a good performance today. We played against a very good team with good players. It was difficult to play against them because they work very well with a lot of the ball. So it was important to keep discipline to get a point," he told reporters.

"Of course, we want to have more possession because we like control of the game, but it is difficult and so that was a good point for us. It is difficult to work with the group. We play every few days in different competitions.

"We have 15 international players and it is difficult to work without these players during the break. However, what we showed was a good spirit, attitude and discipline. We tried to play good football but it was difficult against this team."

The point leaves Southampton 10th in the Premier League table, although they are only four points clear of the relegation zone.
