Newcastle vs. Liverpool lineups confirmed as Rio Ngumoha, Jeremy Jacquet, Nick Woltemade decisions made

Ngumoha, Jacquet, Woltemade calls: Newcastle-Liverpool lineups confirmed!

Newcastle United and Liverpool have announced their starting lineups for Sunday's Premier League clash at St James' Park.

The contests pits together two managerial debutants in Matthias Jaissle and Andoni Iraola, the latter of whom has made zero changes to the Liverpool team that beat Como 2-0 in their final summer friendly.

As a result, new signing Jeremy Jacquet comes straight into the starting lineup for his competitive debut, partnering Virgil van Dijk in defence while fellow summer recruit Ronald Araujo warms the bench.

Jeremie Frimpong and Milos Kerkez are given the nods at full-back as expected, while Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch are favoured over Alexis Mac Allister in the middle of the park.

Rio Ngumoha - who scored a dramatic late winner in this fixture almost exactly 12 months ago - starts on the right-hand side, as Victor Munoz hopes for a substitute debut appearance.

Florian Wirtz and Cody Gakpo - now looking increasingly likely to stay at Liverpool - also retain their spots behind ex-Newcastle striker Alexander Isak, who was subjected to chants of "rat" by Newcastle fans upon his return to St James' Park.

Both Federico Chiesa and Harvey Elliott have been omitted from the matchday squad, but youngsters Trey Nyoni, James McConnell and Lewis Koumas are part of Iraola's bench.

Newcastle vs. Liverpool: Matthias Jaissle hands out three debuts

Meanwhile, Jaissle has included three new signings in his first Newcastle Premier League XI, including Lukas Hornicek in between the posts.

The new number one will be shielded by a largely familiar backline comprising Lewis Hall, Malick Thiaw and Sven Botman, but also Amar Dedic, who makes his full debut at right-back.

Dan Burn is not in the hosts' squad at all, though, as the England international has sustained an ankle injury which could reportedly keep him out for up to six weeks.

Aladji Bamba and Jacob Ramsey started as the double pivot against Strasbourg in a recent friendly, but Lewis Miley and summer signing Sean Steur are preferred in Jaissle's 4-2-3-1 shape against the Reds.

Jacob Murphy, Joe Willock and Bazoumana Toure have also dropped out of the attacking quartet, making way for Anthony Elanga, Yoane Wissa and Harvey Barnes respectively.

William Osula has won his head-to-head with Nick Woltemade to lead the line for the Magpies, who are winless in their last 19 Premier League matches against Liverpool.

Liverpool starting lineup: Alisson; Frimpong, Jacquet, Van Dijk, Kerkez; Szoboszlai, Gravenberch; Ngumoha, Wirtz, Gakpo; Isak

Subs: Mamardashvili, Endo, Mac Allister, Tsimikas, Munoz, Araujo, Nyoni, McConnell, Koumas.

Newcastle starting lineup: Hornicek; Dedic, Thiaw, Botman, Hall; Miley, Steur; Elanga, Wissa, Barnes; Osula

Subs: Jaouen, Schar, Ramsey, Bamba, Toure, Murphy, Woltemade, Willock, Shahar
