The two teams played out a seven-goal thriller in this exact fixture last season, with Ollie Watkins scoring twice to help Villa claim a 4-3 away victory.

Aston Villa’s strong head-to-head record against Brighton should provide them with plenty of confidence heading to the South Coast, but Emery must navigate this fixture after seeing the spine of his Europa League-winning side ripped apart during the summer transfer window.

The visitors should still field a competitive lineup against a fatigued Seagulls squad recovering from a long-distance Conference League qualifier in Norway. With that in mind, both side may have to settle for a share of the spoils.

Manchester City vs. Bournemouth (2:00pm)

The post-Pep Guardiola era in the Premier League begins for Manchester City on Sunday afternoon as Enzo Maresca's side welcome Bournemouth to the Etihad Stadium for their opening fixture of the 2026-27 season.

The Citizens played out a 1-1 draw with the Cherries in their most recent meeting at the Vitality Stadium in May, a result which confirmed Arsenal as top-flight champions.

Having seen a number of high-profile players leave in recent weeks, Man City's squad looks surprisingly light heading into their season opener and this fixture against Rose's high-energy Bournemouth side is by no means an easy assignment for the Citizens.

However, if goal machine Haaland can hit the ground running once again in attack, the hosts should possess the clinical edge to secure all three points and provide Maresca with a winning start.

Newcastle United vs. Liverpool (4:30pm)

New northern eras commence at 4.30pm on Sunday afternoon, when Matthias Jaissle's Newcastle United and Andoni Iraola's Liverpool kick off their 2026-27 Premier League campaigns.

The Magpies concluded pre-season with a measly three-game winless run, while the Reds swapped chaos for control in a 2-0 stroll against Como.

Scoring and conceding comes naturally to Newcastle, who ought to experience at least a sliver of joy in front of goal against a defensively-depleted Liverpool outfit.

However, the Iraola attack was firing on all cylinders for much of pre-season - in which the Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak partnership showed new signs of life - so the Reds have our vote to score three and win at St James' Park once again.
