Mignolet: 'I have nothing to prove'

Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet has insisted that he does not have to prove anything following his spell on the sidelines.

The Belgian international was axed by Brendan Rodgers "indefinitely" ahead of his side's clash against Manchester United following a string of poor displays.

However, Mignolet returned to action on Boxing Day to replace the injured Brad Jones at Burnley, and the 26-year-old says that he has learned from the experience of losing his place in the team.

"You can reflect on your game and look at certain things where maybe, with the busy period we've had, you wouldn't have had the chance, and that is what I have done," he told The Guardian. "You learn a lot and you can move on and hopefully we can build on that.

"I don't have to prove anything. The only thing I can do is work hard and do my best and show what I am capable of on the pitch."

Mignolet is expected to start in Liverpool's match against Swansea City today.
