Adam Lallana: 'Manchester United result won't be definitive'

Adam Lallana plays down the significance of Sunday's result when Liverpool welcome fierce rivals Manchester United to Anfield.

Liverpool midfielder Adam Lallana has expressed his belief that Sunday's meeting with Manchester United won't necessarily prove definitive in the race for the top four.

United are currently two points above fifth-placed Liverpool in the Premier League, but Brendan Rodgers's side welcome their fierce rivals to Anfield having not tasted defeat since December.

However, the England man has played down the significance of the result this weekend when speaking to talkSPORT.

The former Southampton captain said: "Psychologically for us it is massive. If we win we go above United and we get one foot into the top four. There are still another eight games after and there is going to be twists and turns constantly I'm sure.

"Tottenham and Southampton are still in and around the fight as well so they are going to be wanting to pick up points to make it three teams out of six trying to get in the top four.

"It is exciting for the neutral and I'm sure it will go down to the wire."

Lallana was part of the side that won 1-0 against Swansea City on Monday.
