Jurgen Klopp: 'Liverpool will keep pushing for Europe'

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp insists that his side will keep pushing for a European place until the end of the season following their 3-0 victory over Manchester City.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has insisted that his side will keep pushing for a European spot this season following their 3-0 victory over Manchester City this evening.

The Reds climbed back into the top half and within six points of fourth place courtesy of a comfortable victory over Manuel Pellegrini's side, just three days after losing the League Cup final to the same opposition at Wembley.

Klopp was delighted with his side's performance on the night and challenged them to maintain that level for the rest of the season.

"It was for sure our best home game. The best word I can say to describe this is 'Boom!' It was really good, to be honest. It showed us what these boys are capable of. It was a really good performance. We lost the final on Sunday, so we should have showed that we are more greedy today, especially in our situation in the Premier League," he told BT Sport.

"We cannot waste time any more, we have to climb now, we have to get points. We have so many important games in the next few weeks. We only have two tournaments left, but they're the most important tournaments. From the first until the last second it was a really good performance. We have to [chase Europe]. We have to collect points, we have to take every point we can get.

"Good news - tonight was really good. Better news - we can do it on Sunday again. We have to take what we can get, and that's how we should do it. Tonight I told the lads that we have to be angry in a positive football way. They took the cup, now they want the points we want to keep. We have to do it again, and if we can do this then we will have more points at the end of the season than now."

Adam Lallana picked up a goal and an assist during a man-of-the-match display, but while he reserved special praise for the midfielder, Klopp also highlighted a key challenge from Kolo Toure to deny Sergio Aguero in the 71st minute.

"[Lallana] is a great, great player and for our game very important because he is a lively, energetic player and he loves pressing and counter-pressing. At the end people will only remember his genius goal or his pass to Roberto, but the best thing tonight was his counter-pressing actions," he added.

"He played well, but to be honest, the moment of today was the challenge of Kolo Toure. I thought 'It's Aguero, we made a mistake, so it's a goal', or Simon [Mignolet] would have to make a world-class save, but then came Kolo, and it was really not too bad!"

Liverpool will now look to make it three Premier League wins on the bounce for the first time since last March when they take on Crystal Palace on Sunday.
