Jamie Carragher wants Raphael Varane and Diego Godin in Premier League

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher would like to see Diego Godin and Raphael Varane in the Premier League.

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has explained how he would love to see defenders Raphael Varane and Diego Godin move to the Premier League.

Real Madrid centre-back Varane and Atletico Madrid star Godin were part of the sides that played out a goalless draw in the Champions League on Tuesday evening.

Carragher believes that France international Varane can develop into one of the world's best defenders, and the ex-Reds star is also a fan of Atletico's Godin.

He told the Daily Mail: "Varane is a Rolls Royce who could become the world's best. Godin is a player who would have no qualms over tackling his own grandmother to keep a clean sheet. He plays with that pure South American grit.

"With the new television deal about to kick in, we're going to hear stories of clubs linked with Gareth Bale, Paul Pogba and Marco Reus and of course they would be welcome additions [in England].

"[However] nothing would excite me more than the arrivals of Godin and Varane."

Chelsea have been linked with a move for Godin in recent weeks.
