Sports Mole brings you live coverage of League Cup holders Liverpool's quest to continue their defence of the trophy against Swansea.

Swansea City travelled to Anfield this evening to try and knock current holders Liverpool out of the Capital One Cup.

The Swans took a shock first-half lead against a weakened Liverpool side before doubling this lead in the last 20 minutes.

The Reds fought back with a goal from substitute Luis Suarez, but Jonathan de Guzman's strike in stoppage time ensured that Swansea reached the last eight of the League Cup for the first time in their history.

Read how it all unfolded in Sports Mole's minute-by-minute live coverage below.

7.05pmGood evening! We're just under an hour away from kick off at Anfield as Liverpool host Swansea.

7.06pmLiverpool are, of course, the current holders of the trophy, and also have an unparralleled history in the competition, having won it a record eight times.

7.08pmSwansea, on the other hand, have never made it past the current stage in this competition. A win today would see them reach the quarter finals for the first time ever.

7.09pmWe'll have more in depth team news coming up, but I can confirm that Liverpool have rung the changes and brought in a number of fringe players, as expected. Also as expected, there is no Luis Suarez or Steven Gerrard, while Joe Allen does play against his former club.

7.12pmThese two sides have played each other once before in the League Cup, with Liverpool running out 2-0 winners.

7.14pmI promised you more comprehensive team news and here it is.

7.16pmRight, back to the history between these two sides. Swansea have had the better of recent meetings, drawing 0-0 in November of last year and beating the Reds 1-0 in May.

7.17pmIf you were to go back to the previous meeting between the two sides before that, however, it is a different story. Liverpool beat Swansea 8-0 in an FA Cup match in January 1990, courtesy of goals from Barnes (2), Whelan, Rush (3), Beardsley and Nicol... what Liverpool fans would do for some of those players back now!

7.19pmLiverpool may not have scored in their last two games against the Swans, but history tells us that they score in the League Cup: they have only failed to score in one of their past 46 games in this competition.

7.21pmThis is also the first time Liverpool have been drawn at home since the third round in 2010... What happened on that occasion you ask? Northampton Town came to Anfield and won.

7.25pmElsewhere tonight there are two other League Cup matches, including Chelsea hosting Man Utd and Spurs travelling to Norwich. Can any of them live up to the drama of last night's 7-5 thriller between Reading and Arsenal?

7.28pmBack to Anfield where Liverpool are the overwhelming favorites with the bookies. You can get them at odds of 1.62 while Swansea are out at 6.4.

7.32pmI'll also be bringing you live goal updates from the day's other League Cup ties, all of which are exclusively Premier League affairs.

7.34pmSwitching sport momentarily, Andy Murray has just won the first set of his Paris Masters match against Paul-Henri Mathieu as he aims to avoid a similarly shocking early exit to Novak Djokovic.

7.38pmRodgers has spoken about how difficult it was to leave Swansea this summer, but insists that there will be no sentiment involved today. Here is what the Liverpool boss had to say: ""Leaving there was sad but I knew I was coming to one of the biggest clubs in the world. But we want to get through and nothing will get in the way of that. No sentiment gets in the way of wanting to progress to the next round."

7.41pmThe man in the opposing dug out, Michael Laudrup, believes that any stick Rodgers does get will not compare to what he has had to put up with at times in his career.

"I don't know how much stick Brendan will take on Wednesday, but I can tell you it won't be as much as I did when, after five years playing for Barcelona, I went back there with Real Madrid. You could say the fans weren't that happy to see me - there were 100,000 whistling at me every time I touched the ball. The noise was incredible. It wasn't very pleasant."

7.46pmThe two other matches have now kicked off! Once again, we'll be keeping you updated from around the grounds.

7.47pmOver in Spain, meanwhile, there could be a cupset in the making as Malaga, who have been so impressive so far this season, have let a two-goal lead slip against lower league Cacereno.

7.50pmPrediction! Right then, it's 10 minutes until kick off which means it's prediction time! I'm going for 1-0 to Liverpool.

7.52pmBREAKING Some breaking news coming through that Steven Caulker and Tom Lees have been named as the England Under-21 players charged in Serbia. More on site soon.

7.59pmWe're nearing kick off at Anfield, will Rodgers be able to get one over on his former club?

1 minAnd we're off! Swansea have won the toss and made Liverpool attack the Kop in the first half here.

4 minDowning flies down the right flank and whips a ball in which eventually finds Assaidi at the back post, but his touch is poor and it rolls out for a throw-in.

6 minLiverpool are controlling possesion in the early stages here, knocking it around freely.

6 minGOAL There's been a goal at Stamford Bridge and it has gone to Man Utd courtesy of Ryan Giggs!

8 minThe ball nearly breaks for Yesil in the box but Swansea just scramble it clear. Joe Cole then goes for a long range effort, but his scuffed shot hits a defender and goes out for a corner...

8 min...which leads to nothing.

9 minJamie Carragher has just been caught offside! A rarity for the Liverpool stalwart!

11 minA lot of Liverpool's play is coming down the right at the moment where Henderson and Downing are operating. Perhaps a chance for them to play themselves back into first team contention?

16 minGOAL! Chelsea have equalised! David Luiz fires home from the spot after Buttner had brought down Moses.

16 minKi has a go from range for Swansea but it goes a fair way wide of Brad Jones's goal.

20 minPablo Hernandez feeds a good ball inside the full back but Joe Allen ultimately cuts it out and gives it back to Jones.

22 minCoates embarks on a fine run up the right but his cross is more typical of a centre-half. Assaidi picks it up on the left wing but cannot find a way through. It's a bit of a stalemate at Anfield at the moment!

25 minCHANCE! Swansea have the first good sight of goal of the match as Michu links up with Pablo Hernandez, but Carragher gets in a fine block just as the latter is about to pull the trigger. Shades of the old Carragher there.

27 minSilky skills...from Brad Jones! The keeper takes it past the onrushing Michu. Risky play but he got away with it.

28 minSwansea are in the ascendancy at the moment and have a corner, from which Jones has to be alert to punch away.

28 minAt the other end Downing forces a save from Tremmel, but nothing comes of the resulting corner.

30 minCHANCE! Glorious chance for the visitors! Michu breaks away and feeds Dyer, who in turn finds an unmarked de Guzman who has time to pick a shot, but instead overhits an attempted chip. Should have scored.

31 minGOAL! Elsewhere, United have taken the lead at Stamford Bridge again, this time through Javier Hernandez. 2-1 to United now.

33 minKi lets fly again from range, and this one is much better than his first, forcing a good low save from Jones.

34 minGOAL! Swansea have the lead! From the resulting corner Chico Flores leaps higher than everyone else to power a header into the corner.

35 minCHANCE! Almost an immediate response from Liverpool as Assaidi finds Cole with a cross, but the winger, not famed for his heading, hits his effort straight at Tremmel. Should have done better there, but this game has livened up!

37 minIt's half time in the other two Capital One Cup matches, United lead Chelsea 2-1 while Norwich and Spurs are locked at 0-0.

39 minFlores is lucky not to be put in the book there for a cynical tackle on Yesil as Liverpool looked to break.

40 minHalf-chance for the Reds as Yesil is fed the ball on the edge of the box before producing a fine turn to get space to shoot, but his effort was well blocked. Good play all round.

42 minCHANCE! Another sight of goal for Liverpool as Shelvey feeds Downing whose first touch is poor, but he manages to retain the ball and get a shot away that flashes just wide.

44 minMichu and Hernandez are linking up well today, and Hernandez is once again fed by his teammate, only to fire high and wide.

45 minOne minute to be added on at the end of this first half.

45+1 minBOOKING! Captain for the night Jamie Carragher goes into the referee's notebook for a foul on Michu, the first yellow of the night.

45+1 minHALF-TIME: Liverpool 0-1 Swansea

20.54pmAn overall quiet half at Anfield, with a spell of five or so minutes when the majority of the chances, and the solitary goal came. Neither side really deserve to be winning.

20.56pmElsewhere, Chelsea have equalised again at Stamford Bridge! Gary Cahill makes it 2-2 in what sounds like another cracking match between the two.

21.01pmGoal at Stamford Bridge! Another goal at the bridge and it is United who have taken the lead for the third time as Nani makes it 3-2!

46 minWe're back underway at Anfield and Brendan Rodgers has begun the half with a signal of intent, bringing on Gerrard and Suarez for Cole and Yesil.

48 minGoal at Carrow Road! Gareth Bale has given Spurs the lead at Norwich, meaning that all three away teams are leading!

49 minSuarez has already livened up Liverpool's play in this second half, you can tell that there has been an injection of quality.

54 minLiverpool are playing some fluid passing football at the moment but aren't creating anything. When Swansea get the ball they are looking straight for their front three, who have looked dangerous at times.

58 minCHANCE! Suarez attempts to twist and turn through the Swansea defence before shooting at goal, but his effort with his weaker foot is nowhere near.

59 minChico Flores, Swansea's goalscorer, is down here and may have to go off.

59 minThere is the change, on comes Garry Monk, the veteran, for an increasingly rare appearance. How will the 33-year-old cope with Suarez's trickery?

62 minLiverpool need to find an extra spark if they want an equaliser here! Suarez and Gerrard have made that look a little more likely, but they still seem a bit toothless when going forward.

64 minIt looks as if young Raheem Sterling will be the man charged with providing that spark, he's warming up now.

66 minOFF THE POST! Suarez feeds Gerrard, who unleashes a trademark long range striker that rebounds back off the post! The rebound falls staright to Downing, who completely fluffs his effort when he had a simple tap in to an open goal. Fine effort from Gerrard but Downing really should have scored there.

68 minGoal at Carrow Road! Norwich have equalised through a Jan Vertonghen own goal!

70 minLiverpool really should be level here. They won't get a better chance than that Downing one.

72 minCHANCES! Unbeliveable! Swansea have anout four or five gilt edge chances to take the lead in the space of as many seconds! Jones makes a fine triple save and Jamie Carragher produces a trademark block and it eventual falls behind for a corner!

73 minGoal at Carrow Road! Norwich have completed the turnaround! Simeon Jackson makes it 2-1 in the 90th minute!

74 minCHANCE! Hernandez and Michu link up again and the latter is only denied by a fine save from Jones. Corner to Swansea...

74 minsCHANCE! Ashley Williams connects with the corner but heads it wide.

75 minsGOAL! Nathan Dyer

75 minsNathan Dyer latches on to a Pablo Hernandez pass on the counter attack to roll it into the back of the net. Game over?

76 minsDrama elsewhere too! Clint Dempsey has missed a penalty for Spurs in the dying minutes that would have made it 2-2, while Chelsea have equalised at Stamford Bridge through Eden Hazard's penalty!

80 minsGOAL! Luis Suarez

80 minsIt's not over yet! The two half time subs combine as Gerrard swings a free kick in to Suarez, who heads the Reds back into contention.

81 minsIt is, however, all over at Carrow Road and Spurs have been knocked out of the League Cup. Norwich make it through to the last eight!

81 minsBack to Anfield, though, and Liverpool are pushing for an equaliser that would allow them to continue their defence of the trophy.

81 minStewart Downing fires in a low effort straight at the keeper, but he spills it and it almost rolls over the line. Let off for Tremmel.

82 minGoal at Stamford Bridge It was going to take some doing to match last night's drama, but Chelsea and United are doing their best. The hosts take the lead for the first time through Daniel Sturridge. 4-3 in extra time!

89 minLiverpool are pouring forward now, but Swansea keep batting off their attacks. Can they hold out?

90+2 minGOAL! Jonathan de Guzman

90+2 minThey can do more than hold on! Jonathan de Guzman restores Swansea's two-goal lead to send the League Cup holders crashing out of the competition at Anfield.

21.56FULL TIME: Liverpool 1-3 Swansea

9.57pmThere you have it, the holders are out of the Capital One Cup at the hands of Swansea, who reach the quarter-finals of this competition for the first time in their history.

9.59pmThat's all from me tonight, thanks for joining! Stay tuned for the match analysis which will be on the site shortly. In the meantime, feast your eyes on what has been another great match between Chelsea and Manchester United! You can follow live updates here.
