Liverpool team news: Injury, suspension list vs. Manchester City

Liverpool injury, suspension list vs. Man City

The traditional English football season curtain-raiser takes place at Wembley on Sunday as last term's top two do battle for the Community Shield.

Manchester City's clean-sweep of domestic honours means that their Community Shield opponents are the team that finished second in the Premier League, a dubious accolade that went to Liverpool by a solitary point.

The Reds recorded an incredible 97-point haul but still missed out on the title, although there was success on the European front as they lifted their sixth Champions League crown on June 1.

Just over two months on, Jurgen Klopp's side will get their new campaign underway at Wembley having seen a host of star names on international duty during the summer.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up the latest injury and suspension news for the European champions.

Sadio Mane

Status: Out Type of injury: Summer break Possible return date: August 9 (vs. Norwich)

Whereas the likes of Mohamed Salah, Alisson Becker and Roberto Firmino returned in the last pre-season game, Mane remains on his summer holidays after helping Senegal to the final of the Africa Cup of Nations. The forward will rejoin his clubmates next week and could be in contention for the opening Premier League match against Norwich City.

Nathaniel Clyne

Status: Out Type of injury: Knee Possible return date: Unknown

After spending a chunk of last season on loan at Bournemouth, Clyne's Liverpool return was brief before he sustained an ACL injury during a pre-season clash with Borussia Dortmund. The right-back now faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

LIVERPOOL'S SUSPENSION LIST

Liverpool have no players suspended for this match.
