Late Jussie goal holds Liverpool to draw at Bordeaux

A late Jussie goal cancels out Adam Lallana's opener to ensure that both Bordeaux and Liverpool earn a point from their Europa League opener.

Goals from Adam Lallana and Jussie ensured that the spoils were shared in Liverpool's Europa League opener against Bordeaux this evening.

Liverpool started the game brightly as Philippe Coutinho fired wide from the edge of the box, before Emre Can produced an overhead kick, but his effort was comfortable for Bordeaux goalkeeper Cedric Carrasso.

Diego Rolan twice missed good opportunities to give the hosts an early lead, before a deflected Henri Saivet free kick tested Liverpool keeper Simon Mignolet.

Before half time Wahbi Khazri surged past the Liverpool defence but produced a tame effort, before Coutinho struck the post with a 20-yard strike at the other end of the pitch.

After the break Bordeaux missed two good opportunities to take the lead, as Saivet headed into the side-netting from a corner, before Nicolas Maurice-Belay forced a good save by Mignolet.

Liverpool made their opponents pay for their profligacy on 66 minutes, as Lallana dribbled past the Bordeaux defence before finishing into the far corner.

Danny Ings came close to doubling the Reds' lead soon after, as the former Burnley man forced a decent save from Carrasso, before Enzo Crivelli tested Mignolet.

The hosts found a deserved equaliser on 81 minutes, as Jussie produced a good finish into the top corner of the Liverpool goal.
