Stephane Henchoz says that Brendan Rodgers should take the Europa League more seriously.

Former Liverpool centre-back Stephane Henchoz has questioned Brendan Rodgers's approach to the Europa League.

The Northern Irishman has hinted that a number of first-team regulars could be given the night off when the Reds take on Young Boys in Switzerland this evening.

Henchoz said that despite not being as big as the Champions League, the Europa League is still a big competition that Liverpool have every chance of winning.

"I'm surprised Liverpool are going to play so many youngsters," Henchoz told talkSPORT. "Playing away from home, even against Young Boys who are not a great side, Liverpool need more than just young players.

"I know the Europa League is not the Champions League, but I'm sure the fans would like the team to do well, take every game seriously and try to win them."

The Swiss added: "It's difficult for Brendan. He's not got a big squad, especially up front where he has only Luis Suarez, so I can understand why he would leave him out for Sunday. But the Europa League is still a great competition and, when you look at the teams in it, Liverpool could go all the way."

Henchoz was a part of Gerard Houllier's 2001 winning side - Liverpool's third triumph in the competition.
