Wrexham in 'five-team battle' for highly-rated Leeds United youngster

Hollywood style? Wrexham in 'five-team battle' for Leeds youngster

Leeds United midfielder Darko Gyabi is reportedly wanted by Wrexham this summer.

The 21-year-old spent the 2024-25 campaign on loan at Plymouth Argyle, who suffered a poor season in the second tier of English football.

Despite the best efforts of Gyabi and company, the Green Army suffered relegation to League One, in which they have won just once this term to date.

The youngster made 43 appearances in the Championship for the Devon-based outfit last term, scoring once and providing two assists.

Since graduating from the academy of Leeds in 2022, Gyabi has featured just six times for the Whites, failing to find the back of the net.

Wrexham join four clubs in Gyabi race?

According to Football Insider, a new club has entered the race for the services of highly-rated youngster Gyabi ahead of the deadline.

The report claims that newly-promoted Wrexham are looking to seal the signature of the 21-year-old before the end of the trading point.

As well as the Red Dragons, it is understood that Championship counterparts Watford and Hull City are also chasing a deal for Gyabi.

There is said to be interest in the midfielder from across the British Isles, with Ligue 1 outfits Lorient and Metz keen on the player.

At this stage, Leeds are supposedly willing to listen to both temporary and permanent offers for the former Manchester City youngster.

Down the pecking order

Since returning from Home Park over the summer, Gyabi has learned that his game time at Elland Road would be extremely limited.

Following their promotion to the Premier League, Leeds have strengthened in the engine room, signing Sean Longstaff from Newcastle United.

As a result, Gyabi is even further down the pecking order in Yorkshire, with the 21-year-old looking for a switch away before the deadline.
