Leeds United edge past MK Dons challenge

Chris Wood and Charlie Taylor score to help Leeds United beat MK Dons 2-1 in the Championship.

A Chris Wood penalty helped Leeds United beat MK Dons 2-1 in the Championship this afternoon.

Rob Hall turned two Leeds defenders inside out before curling his shot wide as MK Dons started well, before Sam Gallagher tested Marco Silvestri with some long-range efforts.

Against the run of play, Charlie Taylor was brought down in the box by Carl Baker and Wood stepped up to fire United into the lead.

Leeds and Wood nearly doubled their lead instantly but the striker could only clip the bar from a promising counter-attack, before failing to hit the target after connecting with a Stuart Dallas cross.

Manchester United-linked Taylor got Leeds their second goal, the left-back striding forward and lashing the ball into the far corner just before the break.

Mowatt was well saved by David Martin in the second half as Josh Murphy looked strong for the Dons, causing Silvestri a number of problems.

The winger continued to push forward for the home side and it was his low cross that was stabbed in at the far post by Simon Church to grab a goal back for his team. The home side went down to 10 men almost immediately afterwards though after Samir Carruthers was sent off for a strong challenge on Dallas.

MK Dons tried to press forward but the extra man showed as Leeds shirts pressed the home side out of the game to pick up the win.

Leeds now move up to 10th in the Championship, with Dons lying perilously close to the bottom three in 20th.
