Juventus held by Cesena

Juventus are held to a 2-2 draw with Cesena as they blow the chance to extend their Serie A lead to nine points.

Juventus missed out on the chance to extend their lead at the top of Serie A to nine points as they were held to a 2-2 draw away to Cesena on Sunday.

The home side took a surprise lead through Milan Djuric when he profited from Gregoire Defrel's good work to rob Andrea Pirlo in possession on 17 minutes.

However, Alvaro Morata netted shortly before the half-hour mark when he found space in between the two centre-backs to nod home.

The visitors gained the lead six minutes later when Claudio Marchisio met Morata's flick-on to poke home.

After the restart, Cesena had a chance to restore parity through Franco Brienza, but he lost his footing at the vital moment before seeing his effort rise over the bar.

However, Brienza made amends with 20 minutes of normal time remaining when he smashed in a left-footed effort from Francesco Renzetti's cross.

Arturo Vidal was handed a great chance to give Juve the lead once more when the visitors were awarded a penalty with eight minutes to play.

However, the Chile international could only fire wide despite sending the goalkeeper the wrong way, and the home side held on to claim a point against the Italian champions.
