Cruciate ligament injury rules Claudio Marchisio out of Euro 2016

Claudio Marchisio out of Euro 2016

Italy will have to make do without the services of midfielder Claudio Marchisio for this summer's European Championships in France.

The 30-year-old was stretchered off with a left knee injury during Juventus's 4-0 thumping of Palermo this afternoon.

A subsequent scan has revealed damage to the anterior cruciate ligament, which usually requires between nine and 12 months to recover from.

Juve's official website revealed that Marchisio will undergo surgery over the "coming days".

Marchisio made his Italy debut in 2009 and has gone on to make 54 appearances.
