Gianluigi Buffon: 'I would do an excellent job in penalty shootout'

Buffon confident on penalties

Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon believes that both he and opposite number Iker Casillas would excel if tonight's Champions League semi-final with Real Madrid goes all the way to penalties.

Juve hold a slender 2-1 advantage after the first leg last week, and a reverse scoreline for Madrid at the Bernabeu this evening would send the tie to extra time and, barring any goals in the additional 30 minutes, a penalty shootout.

Buffon and Casillas are among the most experienced goalkeepers in world football, and the Italian believes that they will shine if faced with spot kicks.

"If it went to penalties I think Casillas and I would do an excellent job," Buffon told reporters.

"I've been lucky enough, as has Iker, to have played in some important matches and experienced big moments. Saving penalties is a way of thanking your teammates for the work they've done."

Buffon also criticised the recent treatment of Casillas after the Madrid skipper was subjected to whistles from his own supporters at the weekend.
