Giorgio Chiellini could miss Italy's Euro 2012 quarter-final

Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini could be out of the Azzurri's quarter-final match at Euro 2012 after suffering a hamstring injury against Ireland.

Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini could be forced to miss the Azzurri's quarter-final clash at the European Championships with a hamstring injury.

The 27-year-old limped off the pitch during Italy's 2-0 win over the Republic of Ireland last night.

The national side's team doctor Enrico Castellacci said: "These injuries never have immediate recovery periods, but we'll have to wait for the tests that we conduct in a couple of days."

The absence of the defender would prove to be a huge blow to Italy, who will discover their quarter-final opponents tonight following Group D matches between England and Ukraine and France and Sweden.
