Ipswich Town boss Mick McCarthy pleased to take point from Wigan Athletic clash

Ipswich boss Mick McCarthy concedes that his side did not play well enough in their goalless draw against Wigan at Portman Road and was relieved to take a point.

Mick McCarthy has admitted that he was delighted to take a point from Ipswich Town's match against Wigan Athletic as he was displeased with his team's performance.

The Tractor Boys' recent slump in the Championship continued as they were held to goalless draw at Portman Road, failing to find their rhythm and lacking potency in attack without top scorer Daryl Murphy.

McCarthy told BBC Sport: "I'm not going to make any excuses. Neither side played very well. We didn't deserve to win the game so I am delighted with the point from the game.

"I have always said we are not that good that we are going to win every game. But it takes about 75 points to make the playoffs so we now need 24.

"If you look through Wigan's team, you can't tell me that's a team in the bottom three. They ought to be challenging where we are."

Ipswich are fourth in the Championship table, three points off the pace for automatic promotion.
