Goteborg vs Degerfors - prediction, team news, lineups

Fighting for survival in the Swedish Allsvenskan, promoted side Degerfors will travel to take on IFK Goteborg at Gamla Ullevi on Monday.

Blavitt will be hoping to bounce back from defeat last time out, while Bruket will be looking to build on their draw.

Match preview

Just beyond the halfway stage in the top flight, Stefan Billborn's Goteborg are in mixed form, and having won two, drawn one and lost three of their six most recent matches, they are some distance short of the European places.

Last Monday, Blavitt were beaten 4-3 on the road by top-three hopefuls Elfsborg, but while the result was not unexpected, the manager will be disappointed given that his team led 3-1 with 20 minutes on the clock only to walk away empty-handed after conceding twice in second-half stoppage time.

That defeat left Billborn's side eighth in the Allsvenskan rankings with 25 points, eight fewer than Malmo, who currently occupy the final spot for entry into the UEFA Conference League qualifiers.

However, the visitors will take confidence from playing at home in this clash, and with two victories from their last three competitive games at Gamla Ullevi, they could find some joy against their struggling opponents.

While Goteborg fans may doubt their chances of earning maximum points on Monday given their club's recent inconsistency, a ninth league win of the year would be enough to lift them above Djurgarden and up to seventh.

Meanwhile, Henok Goitom's Degerfors were promoted to the top flight after winning the Superettan in 2024, and they have a fight on their hands to stay up this season.

Bruket have found points hard to come by throughout the campaign, but they hit their lowest when they endured a seven-match losing streak between mid-May and mid-July, failing to score in four of those clashes.

However, Golton's side brought their dire run to an end last Saturday when they earned a hard-fought stalemate against Norrkoping, though they were unable to find the back of the net once again in the 0-0 draw.

Taking a point that day has Degerfors 13th in the table with 14 points, one ahead of 14th-placed Sirius - who are in the relegation playoff spot - and 15th-placed Oster, who are currently in the guaranteed drop zone.

Playing on the road this Monday, Bruket will be troubled by their travelling record that saw them suffer three straight defeats by a cumulative score of 9-1, but they will also take heart from the fact that three of their four league victories in 2025 have come in away matches.

Team News

Goteborg could be without midfielder Kolbeinn Thordarson after he was taken off with an injury against Elfsborg, and Imam Jagne will be on hand to fill in alongside David Kruse on Monday.

Elsewhere, centre-back August Erlingmark should captain the side once again, and he will be keen to make up for his own-goal last time out.

At the opposite end of the pitch, striker Max Fenger will be backed up by Saidou Alioum Moubarak and Sebastian Clemmensen out wide, while Tobias Heintz offers support from an attacking midfield position.

As for Degerfors, Omar Faraj and Marcus Rafferty up top will be desperate to avoid another goalless outing, and the duo will be supplied by Sebastian Ohlsson and Elias Barsoum from the flanks.

In the centre of the park, Christos Gravius and Nahom Girmai should start, looking to provide some stability in front of Leon Hien and Juhani Pikkarainen at the heart of Goitom's defence.

IFK Goteborg possible starting lineup:

Bishesari; Santos, Bager, Erlingmark, Tolf; Jagne, Kruse; Moubarak, Heintz, Clemmensen; Fenger

Degerfors possible starting lineup:

Igonen; Sundgren, Hien, Pikkarainen, Diaby; Ohlsson, Gravius, Netabay, Barsoum; Rafferty, Faraj

We say: IFK Goteborg 2-1 Degerfors

Goteborg may be in mixed form, but their recent home record suggests that they could achieve a positive result on Monday.

Additionally, while Degerfors could score a rare goal, they are likely to walk away empty-handed from this clash.
