Huddersfield Town extend Jed Steer loan

Aston Villa goalkeeper Jed Steer extends his loan stay at Huddersfield Town by a further month.

Huddersfield Town have announced that goalkeeper Jed Steer will remain at the club for a further month.

The 23-year-old initially joined the Terriers from Aston Villa on an emergency loan, but he has been given the green light to remain at the John Smith's Stadium until November 11.

A calf injury sustained by first-choice stopper Joe Murphy paved the way for Steer to come in, where he has since started all five of the Championship outfit's league games.

"Joe Murphy is returning from his calf injury and is in full training, but has only played for 45 minutes in last week's behind-closed-doors friendly at Manchester City during the last month," manager Chris Powell told the club's official website.

"We need to be careful not to bring him back too early. As a result, I believe extending Jed's loan was the right thing to do. Jed has performed very well for us during his month at the club. He's looked right at home in his first games in the Championship and I believe he's deserved at least one clean sheet, if not more.

"Waiting to extend Jed's loan until this point maximises the number of games that he can play now the international break has ended."

Steer can now feature in Huddersfield's next six games, including Saturday's trip to Ipswich Town, as Powell's charges aim to push up the league table.

The former Norwich City man's contract at Villa Park has also been been prolonged until the summer of 2019.
