Falkirk edge into Scottish Cup final with win over Hibernian

Craig Sibbald's goal 15 minutes from time has sent Falkirk through to the Scottish Cup final at the expense of Hibernian.

Hibs started the game strongly, forcing goalkeeper Jamie MacDonald into an early save to deny Farid El Alagui. Falkirk hit back soon after when David McCracken headed narrowly wide at the other end.

However, it was Hibernian who continued to dominate the remainder of the first half as El Alagui shot wide following a break before Fraser Fyvie rattled the woodwork with a 25-yard drive.

El Alagui remained in the thick of the action in the second half, shooting straight at MacDonald after some persistent Hibs pressure. Alan Stubbs's side came close again midway through the half, but the post was struck again as Scott Allan was denied after a fine run.

Despite struggling to match their opponents for large spells of the match, Falkirk took the lead with 15 minutes left as Craig Sibbald was allowed to head in Blair Alston's cross.

Hibs threw everything at Falkirk during the final 10 minutes as they tried to force extra time, but Peter Houston's men held on to seal their progress.
