Heerenveen leave it late to beat SBV Excelsior

Heerenveen have recorded their first win of the season in the Eredivisie following a 2-0 victory over SBV Excelsior this evening.

The hosts had a chance to take the lead early on, but Stefano Marzo missed the target after being found by Jordy Buijs.

Excelsior then came close to finding the net when Sander Fischer's effort was turned onto the bar by Kristoffer Nordfeldt.

The game looked to be heading for a draw until goalkeeper Jordy Deckers was sent off for the visitors for bringing down Luciano Slagveer in the box.

From the resulting penalty, Marten de Roon kept his composure to score from the spot and give Heerenveen the lead with six minutes remaining.

In the 89th minute Sam Larsson grabbed a second for the hosts to make sure of the three points which move them up to sixth in the table.
