Germany ease past Czech Republic

Germany have continued their 100% start to their 2018 World Cup qualification campaign after recording a 3-0 win over Czech Republic on Saturday night.

A brace from Thomas Muller and a second-half Toni Kroos strike did the damage for the world champions, who are the early leaders in Group C after collecting six points from their two matches thus far.

It took just 13 minutes for the home side to make the breakthrough, with Mesut Ozil feeding Muller and the Bayern Munich attacker found the bottom corner after wriggling free under pressure.

Julian Draxler and Mario Gotze both had chances to add to the scoring in the first period, but Germany had to wait until the 49th minute to double their lead as Joshua Kimmich set up Kroos on the edge of the Czech Republic box.

Borek Dockal came close to hitting back for the visitors just past the hour, but Germany made sure of all the points 25 minutes from time when Muller found the bottom corner after smart work from Jonas Hector.

Next up for Germany is a home match against Northern Ireland on Tuesday, while Czech Republic, who drew 0-0 at home to Northern Ireland in their first qualifier, will host Azerbaijan on the same night.
