Result: Germany score 10 as champions Mexico bow out

Germany hit 10 goals past Fiji to reach the knockout stages of the Olympic Games but Mexico bow out after losing to South Korea.

Germany have progressed through to the knockout stages of the Olympic football tournament in emphatic style after they recorded a 10-0 victory over Fiji.

Two successive draws had left Germany on the brink of elimination but they ran riot in Belo Horizonte as Nils Petersen scored five times during a 56-minute period.

Captain Max Meyer scored a hat-trick while Arsenal winger Serge Gnabry bagged a double to earn their side second place below South Korea, who knocked out defending champions Mexico.

Kwon Chang-hoon got the decisive goal 17 minutes from time to leave Mexico exiting the tournament at the group stages.
