Germany score 10 as champions Mexico bow out

Germany have progressed through to the knockout stages of the Olympic football tournament in emphatic style after they recorded a 10-0 victory over Fiji.

Two successive draws had left Germany on the brink of elimination but they ran riot in Belo Horizonte as Nils Petersen scored five times during a 56-minute period.

Captain Max Meyer scored a hat-trick while Arsenal winger Serge Gnabry bagged a double to earn their side second place below South Korea, who knocked out defending champions Mexico.

Kwon Chang-hoon got the decisive goal 17 minutes from time to leave Mexico exiting the tournament at the group stages.
