Didier Deschamps happy with France display in win over Russia

Didier Deschamps happy with France display

France boss Didier Deschamps has declared himself satisfied with the performance of his side in Tuesday evening's 3-1 victory over World Cup hosts Russia.

Les Bleus scored two goals in nine minutes either side of the half-time interval in Saint Petersburg to put them on course for a return to winning ways.

Fedor Smolov did pull one back for Russia, but Kylian Mbappe doubled his tally for the match to make the result safe and leave Deschamps happy with his players' efforts at the Petrovsky Stadium.

Deschamps, who switched France from a 4-2-3-1 to 4-3-3, told TF1: "We scored three goals, so no matter the system, we created opportunities.

"We made fewer errors in the second period, even if we conceded the goal. We did not do everything well, but this is a time when players have a lot of matches and goals to achieve [for their clubs]."

France, who squandered a two-goal lead to lose 3-2 to Colombia last Friday, return to action on May 28 with a friendly against Republic of Ireland.
