Mark Clattenburg to referee Euro 2016 final

England's Mark Clattenburg is appointed as the referee for the Euro 2016 final between Portugal and France at the Stade de France.

England's Mark Clattenburg has been appointed as the referee for Sunday's Euro 2016 final between Portugal and France.

The 41-year-old will take charge of the showpiece at the Stade de France alongside assistants Simon Beck and Jake Collin, while fellow Premier League referees Andre Marriner and Anthony Taylor will be the additional assistants.

The appointment completes a clean sweep of major finals for Clattenburg this summer after he was also awarded the FA Cup final between Manchester United and Crystal Palace, and the Champions League final between Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid.

He becomes only the second man, after Portuguese official Pedro Proenca, to be in charge of the Champions League final and the European Championships final in the same year.

Clattenburg will also be the first Englishman in charge of a Euros final since Arthur Holland in 1964, although Jack Taylor and Howard Webb have both since taken charge of World Cup finals.
