Vincenzo Montella rues missed chances in Sampdoria loss

Vincenzo Montella believes that his Fiorentina side should have earned at least a point from their Serie A match against Sampdoria after missing so many chances.

Fiorentina manager Vincenzo Montella has admitted that his team should have been more clinical after falling to defeat against Sampdoria.

The Viola were beaten 3-1 in their Serie A match at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris as they succumbed to a third loss of the season.

"If we look at the table, then it was a missed opportunity to go into third place. It's a shame, but the team did everything it could and have to push forward hoping luck turns our way," Montella told Sky Sport Italia.

"The pitch cannot be treated as an alibi, but obviously a field like that is going to be more damaging to a side that relies on technique and passing to feet. I still thought we could've taken home a result, as when it was 2-1 we didn't make the most of some great chances to equalise.

"Sampdoria changed tactics to shake off our defensive pressing game and they did better on the day, that's all."

Fiorentina are 10th in the Serie A table.
