Everton captain Phil Neville has insisted that he will not be taking any shortcuts into management.
The 35-year-old is currently coaching the England Under-21s side in the absence of Stuart Pearce, who is in charge of the senior squad for tomorrow's friendly against Holland.
Neville is currently working through his coaching badges and will not move into management until he has completed the set.
"I want to get all my badges and do my badges well," he told the club's official website. "I don't want to take any shortcuts. I down want to leave any stone unturned.
"I don't want to come out of football and say 'I have played for 17 years at the top level so I deserve to be a manager' – that is the biggest load of rubbish ever.
"I want to get my badges. I want to go from the start. It is like learning how to walk or learning how to drive – it is totally different from being a player."
Neville made 59 appearances for England.
