Roberto Martinez praises Gareth Barry influence

Everton manager Roberto Martinez hails the influence of midfielder Gareth Barry since he joined the club on loan from Manchester City.

Everton manager Roberto Martinez has credited Gareth Barry with providing a 'calming influence' for his fellow midfielders since his arrival at the club.

Barry has impressed since moving to Goodison Park on loan from Manchester City, and Martinez is delighted to have such an experienced player at his disposal.

The 40-year-old told reporters: "There has been a lot of talk about his 500 appearances in the Premier League, which is an incredible stat and shows the experience that he has.

"But the way that he is as a human being is an incredible influence for players like James McCarthy and Ross Barkley - players who can look up to someone who has been through many experiences and can give them some sort of calm influence."

The England international is not permitted to feature against his parent club when the two sides meet at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday.
