Roberto Martinez "pleased" with Everton display in Burnley win

Roberto Martinez declares himself "pleased" with Everton's 1-0 win over Burnley at Goodison Park.

Roberto Martinez has declared himself pleased after his Everton side ran out 1-0 winners over 10-man Burnley at Goodison Park on Saturday.

Kevin Mirallas's first-half strike was enough for the Toffees to edge out the Clarets, who had Ashley Barnes sent off on the cusp of the break, and Martinez was happy with his team's display.

He told the club's official website: "I was very pleased with the overall performance. The scoreline shows a very good clean sheet and a good goal but we had over 20 attempts to score more. I think we should have [scored more] - we had enough opportunities even without the penalty.

"There is the respect we have towards Burnley and the way they can create chances out of very little. They have real presence up front - Danny Ings is a very clever footballer and they work the ball really well, but we restricted them to one shot on target.

"Being against 10 men can sometimes be very dangerous and I thought we coped with that very well. We never left ourselves exposed and it was a matter of keeping our concentration, defending well, keeping the clean sheet and trying to score that second goal."

The win leaves the Blues in 12th in the Premier League table.
