Romelu Lukaku hails important win over Southampton

Romelu Lukaku says that it was important for Everton to bounce back from their defeat against Sunderland, following their 2-1 win over Southampton.

Everton forward Romelu Lukaku has revealed his delight at the club's 2-1 win against Southampton.

The Belgian international, who scored the second goal of the game to seal an important victory for the Toffees, believes that it was important for them to recover from their defeat against Sunderland on Boxing Day.

"Today we played well and showed great mentality and hopefully we can continue it on New Year's Day," BBC Sport quotes him as saying.

"It was important to bounce back - we want to finish as high up as possible and if we show the same consistency and performance we can improve on last season."

Everton visit Stoke City in the Premier League on New Year's Day.
