David Unsworth to take charge of Everton for Chelsea EFL Cup tie

David Unsworth will reportedly take charge of the Everton team for Wednesday's EFL Cup tie against Everton while the club hunt for Ronald Koeman's successor.

Everton Under-23 boss David Unsworth will reportedly take charge of the first team for Wednesday night's EFL Cup tie against Chelsea.

The Merseyside outfit are looking for a new leader after deciding to part company with manager Ronald Koeman on Monday afternoon.

The final straw appeared to be Sunday's Premier League match against Arsenal, which ended in a 5-2 defeat at Goodison Park.

The Dutchman oversaw just two victories in nine Premier League games and the club are on the brink of Europa League elimination having lost two and drawn two in the group stage.

Unsworth is the current favourite to fill the vacancy full time, and according to the Liverpool Echo, the U23s coach will get an opportunity to prove his ability when he takes charge of the midweek fixture.

John Ebbrell, who also works with the development squad, will be Unsworth's assistant for the game at Stamford Bridge.
